The master’s program Interdisciplinary Computing at IT:U is the university’s first interdisciplinary technical program. It combines computing with a wide range of disciplines through a unique project-based and personalized learning approach. As a student, you will study in a dynamic international environment, gain hands-on experience in small learning groups, and develop the expertise needed for careers in industry or academia. The program is designed to help you navigate and innovate at the intersection of computer science and other knowledge domains.

The program spans four semesters and awards a total of 120 ECTS credits. In the first year, you will participate in the Learn Lab modules, which introduce you to six interdisciplinary labs: Virtual Reality, Motion Capture, Maker Lab, Robotics, Interaction, and Data Lab. During the second semester, the Pre-specialization module prepares you with essential skills for one of four specialization tracks: Designing Interactions, Digital Earth, Society and Networks, Digital Humanities, Health and Life Sciences, or Future Industries. The third semester focuses on the Research Proficiency module, where you are trained in academic writing and methodology. Additionally, you will dive deeper into your chosen specialization, tackling real-world challenges and projects. In the final semester, your studies culminate in the writing and defense of your Master’s Thesis. IT:U offers tuition-free education to all students, regardless of their country of origin. After the standard duration of the program plus two tolerance semesters, a tuition fee of €600 per semester may apply; in addition, all students are required to pay the Austrian Student Union fee of €25.20 each semester.
